GREAT RIVER MISSION DISTRICT During the Great Rivers Mission District meeting, held at Lutheran Week, Pastor Waktola Dufera of Life Stream Oromo Evangelical Church (an NALC CGS Ministry partner) spoke to the group about their dire need for financial aid. We at New Beginnings currently sponsors them with monthly donations of 1% of our congregational giving. Their congregation consists almost exclusively of Oromo Christian immigrants from Ethiopia. The Oromo are churchless & have space-hopped no fewer than four times. They have an opportunity to purchase a church building in which to worship but despite being able to maintain a mortgage, have been unable to raise the total amount for the down payment required by the lending institution. While New Beginnings cannot sponsor the fund gap entirely, the church council made the call to appropriate $2000 of the congregations’ reserves to LSOE to give assistance, effective immediately. Through Sunday, September 28th, additional donations will be collected to send to LSOE to help with the building acquisition. If you would like to help, please write LSOE as the designee in your contributions. Contact Rachel Busch Jones for more information.
THE WALK FOR WATER will be on October 5 at the River Bend Forest Preserve starting with check-in/registration at 9am. The walk will start at 10am and lunch will be served at approx. 11:30 either at the pavilion at River Bend or at the church, depending on the weather. We will need volunteer help with registration and with the meal. Bourbon Smoke BBQ will be providing the meat and there will be chips, drinks and cookies.
Register your team or individuals at Watermission.com or look for the link on NBLC website. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the time of registration. Let’s work together by asking friends, family, co-workers, employers and businesses to support our efforts to raise money for this worthwhile event.
