MAHOMET MUSIC FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Information provided from Brian Romanowski at First Baptist Church:
The music festival is just a week and a half away. We are so thankful for all of your financial support, which has allowed us to bring a big named band, Building 429, to the festival and publicly proclaim the Good News of Jesus to our community and beyond. I hope your churches will use this as an opportunity to invite the lost people in our community to a non-threatening venue where they can hear the Good News in a dynamic way.
We still need volunteers. So far it’s just Dave Lutes and me. We need about 35-40 others to help. If you would please get the word out and recruit come folks. Just like the financial piece, we can’t do it without volunteers. I have attached an updated list of needs. Please have any volunteers contact me or Dave Lutes, and call if you have any questions of concerns.
Thanks so much for making this community event possible.
** A list of volunteer needs/opportunities is located on the table in the Narthex, please contact Brian Romanowski at the First Baptist Church at 586-3304 if you are able to volunteer**
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ARE WORKING on the southeast entryway remodeling. The Thursday crew included: Paul and Kevin Hunsinger, Andy Busch, John O’Donnell, Dale Tharp, Mike Feigl, and Pastor Oman.
GREAT RIVER MISSION DISTRICT During the Great Rivers Mission District meeting, held at Lutheran Week, Pastor Waktola Dufera of Life Stream Oromo Evangelical Church (an NALC CGS Ministry partner) spoke to the group about their dire need for financial aid. We at New Beginnings currently sponsors them with monthly donations of 1% of our congregational giving. Their congregation consists almost exclusively of Oromo Christian immigrants from Ethiopia. The Oromo are churchless & have space-hopped no fewer than four times. They have an opportunity to purchase a church building in which to worship but despite being able to maintain a mortgage, have been unable to raise the total amount for the down payment required by the lending institution. While New Beginnings cannot sponsor the fund gap entirely, the church council made the call to appropriate $2000 of the congregations’ reserves to LSOE to give assistance, effective immediately. Through Sunday, September 28th, additional donations will be collected to send to LSOE to help with the building acquisition. If you would like to help, please write LSOE as the designee in your contributions. Contact Rachel Busch Jones for more information.
ATTENDANCE for Sunday, August 11th was 67.
