Prayers of the People – April 2, 2017
Lord God, You breathed and gave life to the dust of creation. You sent Your Spirit and gave life to the dry bones among which Ezekiel walked. Jesus commanded and the little girl, the young man, and Lazarus returned to life. On the third day after the resurrection Jesus came back to life, never to die again. Refresh and renew us breathing the life of Christ in us beginning with a moment of personal petitions.
Breathe your gracious Spirit into this congregation, so that our worship, words, deliberations and deeds abound. We’re all related, brothers and strangers. We’ve all got a sickness, a terminal condition. We medicate it but the pain won’t go away. Lord God, You are the cure. Everybody’s searching, reaching for it. Only you can satisfy us, fill up the void. Fill us with the life of Jesus, and give us the will and the strength to share his life with everyone we meet. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Breathe your Holy Spirit into all who lead the nations, especially our own. Fill them with wisdom and understanding; counsel and might; knowledge and fear of you, their Lord; and joy in doing your will. Help them use the power entrusted to them for the life and welfare of their people. And breathe your gracious Spirit into every heart, so that hatred, violence, cruelty and war should cease. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Breathe your Spirit into all who risk their lives to defend liberty and to protect others, especially Drew McCowen,. Keep them faithful, true and bold. Shield and direct them in perilous situations; raise and heal them when they fall; and deliver them into a place of safety, peace and honor when their task has ended. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Breathe your Holy Spirit upon your persecuted servants throughout the world. Revive their faith and knit them into an undying fellowship with Jesus and with one another. By their courageous witness and their patient suffering, glorify your Name and turn many hearts to repentant faith. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Breathe your Spirit of life and grace into all who all who are afflicted by sickness, sorrow or adversity. As Jesus commanded the bystanders to release Lazarus from his shrouds, we pray that he would grant caregivers the skill and compassion to release those who suffer from the shrouds of pain, fear, or sorrow. You are the cure for the broken, the hope for a hopeless world. The meaning, the purpose, the peace that will make us whole. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Breathe your Holy and life-giving Spirit into us, for we are still troubled by the powers of death, sin, and the devil. Give us the grace to comfort one another in times of sorrow, and to encourage, guide and aid each other along life’s road. You are the doctor, healer and father to the orphan without a home. We fell into darkness, lost till you found us. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer .
May we go from this place today as Your faithful servant. We are indeed blessed to receive so that we may be blessed to give. You are the breath to guide us in every circumstance this week and lead us in Your way of truth. Into your hands, we lift up these prayers. Amen.
