Prayers of the People- Week of Jan. 22

To God who welcomes all in love, let us pray for the good of the church and the concerns of those in need.

Perfect Light of revelation, as you shone in the life of Jesus, whose epiphany we celebrate, so shine in us and through us, that we may become beacons of truth and compassion, enlightening all creation with deeds of justice and mercy. Let us be a blessing to others as You have first blessed us. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We sometimes scoff at your words in Leviticus, presuming that they do not apply to any people except ancient Israel. But they contain wisdom that every citizen and leader, in every land, in every time, should heed and obey. Teach us all to care for the poor, and to provide them with the dignity of honest labor; to speak and act toward our neighbor wisely, fairly, and out of care for their wellbeing; and in all things to remember that we must give an account of our actions to you, the holy and perfect Lord of all nations. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

We thank and praise You that we are redeemed by grace through faith, and not by our works. Let our words and actions bring glory to God. Bless this country as we mark a new administration. Some are jubilant, some in anguish and we all seek direction and your guidance in restoring the bonds of community and the will towards the Common Good as we move forward. Help us all to commit to peaceful gathering and celebrations, to deep reflections and to respectful dialogues during this transition of government in the U.S., so our country can begin to heal from division and distrust. May we begin to find our way. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who are persecuted on account of naming Jesus as Lord. Guide them and provide them with Your word of truth and forgiveness, so that their tormentors may repent and be saved. We also ask that You protect the men and women risking their lives in defense of life, liberty and justice. Protect their families from fear; bring the military servants home safety; heal wounds to their bodies and spirits; and use their service as building blocks for a happier and safer world. Lord in Your Mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for guidance to see all who are afflicted with pain, suffering, or sorrow of mind, body and soul, known and unknown. We pray that you will strengthen their bodies, refresh their hearts, take away their fears, and give them your peace. Bless all who care for them with kindness and skill. Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
We give you thanks for those who are at home with the Lord, for whom all that is mortal has been swallowed up by life. May the reconciliation in Christ be our hope, and bring us to that day of harvest when, safe from all harm, we shall rest in the kingdom of God. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of every land and nation, you have created all people and you dwell among us in Jesus Christ. Listen to the cries of those who pray to you, and grant that, as we proclaim the greatness of your name, all people will know the power of love at work in the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
