Announcements for Week of Dec. 18

NEW OUTDOOR BANNERS Did you notice the new outdoor banners when you came to church last Sunday? There are three new banners for the Christmas season- two new pole banners in the parking lot area and one feather flag banner at the front corner of the church. Thank you to everyone that has donated to make it possible to buy the banners for our church. Be sure to check out the three new ones!

CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICES will be at 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. on Saturday December 24th. We will have a time of refreshments between the services. Feel free to bring goodies to share.

CHRISTMAS DAY SERVICES will be Sunday the 25th at 10:00 a.m.

BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE OF HOPE The holy days of Advent and Christmas are often a time of joy and celebration as we rejoice that Jesus is born, and as family and friends gather. But, at times, these days are not as joyful as we hope; perhaps you, or someone you know, are experiencing the loss of a loved-one, or facing health concerns, or missing family, or just “blue” with the short days and long nights. We will be offering a Blue Christmas Service of Hope to help through these difficult times on Tuesday, December 20th, at 7:00 p.m. Come and be surrounded by the love of the Lord, bring someone who is having a difficult time in life, or come and support those who are struggling with life.

SERVICE OF LESSONS AND CAROLS On Sunday January 1, 2017, the First Sunday after Christmas, we will again have a service of Lessons and Carols. Please sign up for one of the readings on the list in the narthex.

MISSION TRIP MEETING The next Mission Trip planning meeting will be Sunday, January 8, 2017, after worship. Come to learn about the trip and to make plans!

FROM HEAVEN ABOVE: ADVENT WEEKLY WORSHIP SERIES-SERVICE FOUR We join with the people of God in celebrating the life of faith we have here on earth in Christ’s name and the life that awaits us in heaven with him through his birth among us. Let the words, Scripture verses, hymns, litanies, and prayers of this worship experience invigorate you to “unwrap” the Gift of Life from Christ by faithfully serving those around you in forgiveness and love day after day.

How to discover your purpose in life will be explored at Lifetree Café on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 12:30 pm at the Candlewood Pool House. The program, titled “Crafting a Truly Fulfilling Life: Making the Most of Whatever Comes Your Way,” features a filmed interview with Dennis Drake. Drake is the founder of the International Deaf Education Association, a Philippines-based program dedicated to providing education and training to the island’s deaf population. “This work gave me purpose; it gave me life,” says Drake. “I found my life here with this community and these kids. If I look back over the last 34 years, I have no regrets over how I’ve spent my time.” During the program, participants will have the opportunity to tell about times they’ve felt fulfillment in their own lives.

ADVENT/CHRISTMAS This year the Advent series is entitled: “From Heaven Above”, and we will be worshiping around the themes of: The Gift of Hope; The Gift of Love; The Gift of Peace; and the Gift of Life. Advent will continue each Wednesday evening through December 21. The worship service will be at 6:30, with a potluck meal at 5:30. Bring a dish to pass and join us. The Advent offering for this year will be designated to the local Helping Hands ministry, which helps people who don’t have adequate food resources in our community, and to the Mahomet Ministerial Association for use in the transient fund.
LEADERSHIP TEAM The Leadership Team meeting will be tomorrow, Monday, December 19th, at 7:00 p.m. The day has been moved to Monday this month because of scheduling problems on Tuesday.

ATTENDANCE for Sunday, December 11 was 99 and total offering was $3,283.00.
