Announcements for Week of Nov. 20

LIVING ONLINE SHOWN AT LIFETREE CAFE
The consequences of living online will be explored at Lifetree Café on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 12:30 p.m. in the Pool House at Candlewood. The program, titled, “Living Online: Provocative Thoughts From the Author of ‘Is Google Making Us Stupid?’”—features a filmed interview with Nick Carr, a 2011 Pulitzer finalist who frequently writes about technology and culture. “This is a very strange moment in history,” Carr says. “People are socializing, looking at media, and being distracted from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to bed. I don’t think we fully know yet what the consequences of this shift will be.”

QUARTERLY OFFERING STATEMENTS are available in the narthex on the table in the wicker basket in alphabetical order.

YOU ARE INVITED TO CONSIDER BECOMING ONE OF THE NBLC “POP” LEADERS! “POP” or more traditionally called the Prayers of the People is a time during our church service when we have the opportunity to pray for specific needs in our church, nation and world. As God’s children, He delights in hearing us call upon him at any time. Each Sunday, the tradition at New Beginnings has been to have a person prepare and lead each of us during this portion of the service. The prayer recited is also shared on our church website. If you are interested in exploring this opportunity, please contact Pastor Oman or Lisa Schwarzentraub.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS We delivered 23 baskets to local families on Nov. 21. Thank you to all who donated food, money or their time to help make this community service project possible.

MAHOMET HELPING HANDS will again be giving Christmas gifts to children in our community who are in need. There are ornaments available if you would like to help this year. Each ornament has a child listed by age and gender. Please buy a gift, or a gift card, and return them to NBLC by Sunday, December 11th. Thank you!

DECEMBER BUNCO is all set for Thursday, Dec 1st at 6:30 pm hosted by Kathi Oman. Thank you to Bobbie Schnikey for hosting in November. So mark your calendars for the 1st Thursday evening of the month for an easy and fun way to make new friends, roll some dice and laugh. All are welcome so invite a friend or neighbor!

ADVENT/CHRISTMAS We will decorate the sanctuary and building for Advent/Christmas on Saturday, December 3rd, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Come and help decorate! This year the Advent series is entitled: “From Heaven Above”, and we will be worshiping around the themes of: The Gift of Hope; The Gift of Love; The Gift of Peace; and the Gift of Life. Advent will start Wednesday evening, November 30th, and will continue each Wednesday evening through December 21. The worship service will be at 6:30, with a potluck meal at 5:30. Bring a dish to pass and join us. The Advent offering for this year will be designated to the local Helping Hands ministry, which helps people who don’t have adequate food resources in our community, and to the Mahomet Ministerial Association for use in the transient fund.
