QUAD AMPUTEE STORY SHARED AT LIFETREE CAFE
How to overcome physical and emotional challenges will be explored at Lifetree Café on Thursday, November 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the Pool House at Candlewood. The program, titled “Choosing Resilience,” features a screening of the inspiring true story of Staff Sgt. Travis Mills who lost both his arms and legs as a result of an IED explosion in Afghanistan. “I was told by my occupational and physical therapists that they were there to help, but whatever I put in was what I would get out. The sympathy card wasn’t ever played, and I think that was key for my recovery,” said Mills. The film shows an intimate look at the daily inner and outer struggles of wounded veterans and the difficult rehabilitation processes they face. Participants will be challenged to look at the ways they deal with their own personal trials and will find encouragement and hope from Mills’ story.
THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CONGREGATION is scheduled for Sunday, November 13, following worship. Plan to attend! Copies of the proposed budget are in the Narthex. Please review it and contact a member of the Leadership team if you have questions or comments.
YOU ARE INVITED TO CONSIDER BECOMING ONE OF THE NBLC “POP” LEADERS! “POP” or more traditionally called the Prayers of the People is a time during our church service when we have the opportunity to pray for specific needs in our church, nation and world. As God’s children, He delights in hearing us call upon him at any time. Each Sunday, the tradition at New Beginnings has been to have a person prepare and lead each of us during this portion of the service. The prayer recited is also shared on our church website. If you are interested in exploring this opportunity, please contact Pastor Oman or Lisa Schwarzentraub.
VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY The students and staff at Lincoln Trail Elementary School will host their annual Veterans Day Assembly on November 11, 2016. We would like to show our appreciation to the veterans and active duty personnel who have made, and are making sacrifices for our country. The assembly will include music performed by the students as well as recognition of veterans and active duty personnel in attendance. Join us at 9:15 in our cafeteria to enjoy coffee and cookies with fellow veterans. The ceremony will begin at 10:15 in the Lincoln Trail Gymnasium. Please join us for this special tribute to our veterans!
THANKSGIVING BASKETS We will be sharing Thanksgiving baskets with local families again this year. The items we will collect are canned vegetables and fruit, dessert mixes, canned pumpkin with pie crust mix, stuffing mix, etc. and IGA gift card for turkey or ham. See the display in the narthex and pick up a post it note for the items you can purchase to fill the baskets. Last year we delivered about 20 baskets in our community and they were greatly appreciated by the families. We will be packing the bags on Nov 17 and delivering them on Nov 21 & 22.
MISSION TRIP MEETING We have been blessed by God through Jesus. One of the ways we can share the blessings of God with others is through participating in a mission trip. We will have a planning meeting for a mission trip on Sunday November 20th, after worship. Come with ideas and a willingness to share God’s blessings!
