The following scripture readings will be read during service on Oct. 30, 2016.

Today is Reformation Sunday, the day when we remember Martin Luther nailing 95 Theses for discussion to the church door in Wittenburg Germany.
The readings reflect the importance of the Reformation.

Revelation 14:6-7 The First Reading is Revelation 14:6-7. Notice in this reading how the Gospel of Jesus is an eternal Gospel – there is no other and nothing better than the Good News of Jesus. Notice also that the Gospel is to be proclaimed to everyone on earth, no one is beyond God’s grace in Jesus; all can hear and come to faith. We pray that as the Gospel is proclaimed the Holy Spirit will take the message of Jesus and cause faith to grow in the lives of those who do not believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Holy Spirit of God, send the Gospel to every person on earth,and work in the hearts of all who hear, bringing them to faith in Jesus because He alone is Lord and Savior. In His Name, and for His sake, we pray. Amen.

Psalm 46 The psalm is 46. This is the psalm upon which Martin Luther based the hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”. As you read the psalm, meditate on all the ways the psalm shows us how the Lord is our refuge, strength, help in trouble; our fortress. May we always trust in the Lord as our hope, help, and shelter in time of trouble.
God, our refuge, strength, and help in trouble, we give You honor, glory, thanks and praise for all the ways you protect and strengthen us in Yourself. Keep us in faith, trusting in You even when the world is in chaos around us. Let us have the peace You alone can give. In Jesus” Name, Who is the Prince of Peace, we pray. Amen.

Romans 3:19-28 The Second Reading is recorded in Romans 3:19-28. How are we put right with God? By our actions? By what we do, or don’t do? This passage proclaims that we are put right with God by faith, and faith alone, in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. God’s righteousness is shown by putting us right with Himself by faith. Let us always live in faith, trusting in God’s justification of us in Jesus.
Just and righteous Lord, we thank and praise You that You put us right with Yourself through what Jesus has done for us on His cross and in His resurrection. Keep us steadfast in faith, trusting in Jesus’ redemption of us. Amen.

John 8:31-36 The Gospel is recorded in John 8:31-36. This passage includes conversations about truth, freedom, slavery to sin and freedom from sin. Notice that truth, freedom, and freedom from sin are all centered in Jesus. It is Jesus Who is the ultimate truth, it is Jesus Who sets us free from sin. Let us keep our eyes on Jesus and the truth He embodies and the freedom He gives us.
Lord Jesus, by Your Holy Spirit, keep us firmly in You, trusting in You alone, and walking in the freedom You give us by breaking the power of sin, death, and the devil in our lives. Amen.
