SCARS OF SELF-INJURY EXAMINED AT LIFETREE CAFÉ Cutting and other forms of self-mutilation will be discussed at Lifetree Café on Wednesday at 7:00pm in the café and Thursday at 12:30pm in the Pool House at Candlewood. The program, titled “Cutting: The Epidemic of Self-Mutilation,” features filmed interviews with two individuals who committed acts of self-harm including cutting and burning. “After a while it became a medicine for me,” says one of the individuals, who describes cutting herself regularly for a period of two years. “Whenever I wasn’t comprehending something completely, or whenever I was in a daze from depression, I would cut, and it would give me the medicine I needed.” During the program, participants will have an opportunity to discuss emotional wounds they’ve experienced in their own lives and how they’ve responded to them.

THE GREAT RIVERS MISSION DISTRICT CONVOCATION will be Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in Philo, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. See Pastor Oman for details. Mr. Ryan Schwarz, the treasurer of the NALC, will give a taped presentation for our discussion and consideration.

OKTOBERFEST IS COMING! On October 30 from 4-6pm the SOC will be hosting a dinner of German food and music at the church. Tickets are a donation of $15 per couple or $7.50 for a single. This dinner is for everyone in the congregation and their guests. The seating is limited to 80 so get your tickets early. The tickets will be available after church starting Oct 9.

SIGHT AND SOUND THEATRE Starting on October 16th and continuing once a month, the American Lutheran Church in Rantoul will be playing shows from the Sight and Sound Theatre on our screen in the Sanctuary and would like to invite all local churches to attend. WATER MISSION We have been hearing of the devastation from hurricane Matthew. One avenue to help is through Water Mission. Please view the video sent out in an email and see how Water Mission is gearing up to help. If you would like to help through Water Mission feel free to contact them directly, or make a check to Water Mission and put it in the offering plate or drop it off in the office, we will send the checks to Water Mission. Prayerfully consider how you might help.

As God’s children, He delights in hearing us call upon him at any time. Each Sunday, the tradition at New Beginnings has been to have a person prepare and lead each of us during this portion of the service. The prayer recited is also shared on our church website.
