Prayers of the People
October 2, 2016
At this time may we be reminded, we never pray alone, for whenever we pray we join the prayer of the entire Church on earth and in heaven. Let us join together to pray to the Lord, who is our rock, our salvation and our refuge beginning with a moment of silence.
God, our Rock, teach us to cry out to You humbly but boldly for our broken world and for each other. Rescue us and our society from violence, hatred and racism. Our culture has lost sight of Your beautiful design for life, and we confess we’re tempted either to despair or turn from Your ways ourselves. We pray that our country will find a way to be united around common goals and ideals. Grant us patience and trust when we do not see Your immediate intervention. Enable all of us to persevere and be encouragers of one another to live by faith. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God, our Rock, assure each of us that You give us a spirit not of fear but of power, love and self-control. Shield us from ever being ashamed to testify about our Lord, and make each of us ready to share in suffering for the Gospel. Shield, defend and strengthen all Christians who are persecuted on account of the Lord Jesus. Give them grace to wait on you, their rock and their salvation. And give them courage to stand at their watch-post; to speak and live your Word boldly and truly, so that their tormentors may repent of their evil ways and turn to you. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God, our Rock, care for our families. Watch over parents and children. Grant patience, contentment and, if it is Your will, children to those desiring to be parents. Open doors for adoption and provide homes for children who live without mothers and fathers. Guard the faith passed from generation to generation. Send Your Spirit to work among us so that the faith You have planted in grandparents and parents sprouts also in children. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God, our Rock, keep our nation’s military personnel safe. Guide these men and women to serve to bring peace and stability to our world. Grant faith, perseverance to those suffering in mind, body and soul, named and unnamed. If it is for their good provide healing and respite. Be with their families and caregivers and tighter they seek you as their refuge so they are not shaken even in times of trouble. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God, our Rock, keep us united in faith and hope with all the saints who have gone before us. Let us lean on You, for when we are at our weakest Your strength is strongest. We praise you for all faithful witnesses, and ask that by grace we may join them in eternal joy and life when our days are ended. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
God, our Rock, thank you for the hope and renewal that you offer to this world and to our hearts and lives. Thank you for always being there to talk to and may we never cease to listen and follow your direction in every circumstance this week. Amen
