Prayers of the People
September 25, 2016
At this time may we be reminded, we never pray alone, for whenever we pray we join the prayer of the entire Church on earth and in heaven. We pray for others, and we are strengthened by those who pray for us. Let us join together adding our voices to the unceasing praise of all creation beginning with a moment of silence.
O God, rich in mercy, the Creator of all that is, we pray for your gifts around us – for stars that light the night, for the sun that lights the day, for trees that make the air, for wildlife that lives all around us in fields and forests. Make us careful and mindful stewards of the resources that you have granted us. Teach us to tend all things under our charge, as you first ordained before the beginning of time. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
O God, rich in mercy, you look with compassion on this troubled world. Feed us with your grace, and grant us the treasure that comes only from you, through Jesus Christ. Grant our Church the spirit of your loving-kindness. Help us be good disciples making time to study your word through study and devotion. May we then have the strength to turn from the influence of others and be more like you. Help us not gossip, exclude others, or make them feel different from ourselves. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
O God, rich in mercy, look upon those in authority among the nations of the world. May their hearts and minds be moved by your authority, direction and wisdom. We pray that our country will find a way to be united around common goals and ideals including prayer and preparation to perform our civic duty and vote in November. We also pray for our nation’s military personnel that they will be kept safe and that their service will help to bring peace and stability to our world. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
O God, rich in mercy, you have granted us water as basis of life as we know it. Let us drink our water with thankfulness, conserve it with care, and demand that fresh water never become a commodity denied to those without enough money. We pray for the upcoming Walk for Water and seek your guidance in how each of us can support this effort. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
O God, rich in mercy, there is joy in heaven whenever any human being is restored. May this joy be felt as we lift up prayers for those experiencing challenges of mind, body or spirit. Hear the cries of your people, far and near. Soften our ears to their distress and make us your hands and feet to those needing support and patience. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
O God, rich in mercy, we give you thanks for those who are at home with You, for whom all that is mortal has been swallowed up by life. May the reconciliation in Christ be our hope, and bring us to that day of harvest when, safe from all harm, we shall rest in the kingdom of God. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
O God, rich in mercy, thank you for always being there in every moment when we need you the most, when we think we don’t need you, and even when we turn our backs on you. Your love is the one thing we can count on. We lift our prayers to you, trusting in your promise to hear us. Amen
