Announcements for the week of September 18

BULLYING EXAMINED AT LIFETREE CAFÉ Techniques and strategies for coping with bullies will be discussed at Lifetree Café on Wednesday at 7:00pm in the café and Thursday at 12:30pm in the Pool House at Candlewood. The program, titled “Confronting Bullies: At School, Work, and Home,” features a filmed interview with Scott Larson. “You have three parties involved when it comes to bullying,” Larson explains. “There are the bully, the victim, and the bystanders. Most people, as bystanders, don’t think they contribute to bullying, but that is probably the group that has the most power.” During the program, participants will have the opportunity to tell of times they’ve faced bullying and how it impacted their lives.

WALK FOR WATER TEAMS – The Walk for Water is October 1 starting at 9am. It is time to get your team together. The teams can be family, co-workers, club or team members or your friends. You can ask a business to sponsor your team or ask people you know to donate. There will be prizes for the team and individual with the most donations collected and the biggest team.

WALK FOR WATER REGISTRATION Please go online to http://events.watermissions.org/site/TR?fr_id=1611&pg=entry to register for the Walk for Water. Make sure to sign up as a youth participant to only pay the $5.00 registration fee. If you would like to donate please go to the same website and click on the “donate” tab.

COOKIES OR BROWNIES NEEDED We will be providing lunch for the Walk for Water participants and need cookies and brownies for dessert. If you can make either one that would be very helpful. Drop them off at the church anytime Fri, Sept 30. Have you gotten your team together yet? The Walk will be here before you know it!

WATER JUGS NEEDED for the Walk for Water. If you have any gallon or ½ gallon jugs (clean and emptied) please drop them off underneath the coat rack before the Walk on Oct. 1.

AFGHAN AND QUILT RAFFLE – This year we will have a quilt donated by the quilting ladies and an afghan made by Richie Vanderspool to raffle for the Walk for Water. Tickets are 1 for $1 and 6 for $5 and will be sold between services and at the Walk for Water on October 1.

NEW BEGINNINGS IS CALLING LEADERS FOR THE 2017 LEADERSHIP TEAM. The Nominating Committee would like your input on the search for President, Secretary and Financial Secretary. Please spend time in prayer for the leadership of our congregation and how you and others may serve. ONE EVENING . . . ONE HEART . . . ONE CRY! New Beginnings will be a site for hosting a large-scale simulcast prayer event on Friday, September 23 from 6-9 pm to gather thousands of women to pray for God’s mercy and supernatural intervention in our world, our nation, our churches, our cities, and our homes. This three-hour prayer gathering will focus on five areas of prayer emphasis: personal, families, churches, our nation, and the world. Each segment will be led by a different keynote speaker and will include Scripture reading, a short devotional message, corporate interactive prayer, and worship. Ladies, please join us in the café for a powerful night of prayer!

EIFB HUNGER ACTION MONTH – September is Hunger Action Month at Eastern Illinois Food Bank. On Friday Sept 23 is Operation Orange – 12 hour repack – so grab a group of family friends or co-workers for a 2 hour shift to repack bulk products into family sized portions to be distributed to more than 200 food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in the 17 county region. Our congregation will be signed up from 2-4pm on Friday afternoon for those who can volunteer for repacking. Anyone that is registered by September 9 will receive an Operation Orange t-shirt. Contact Cheryl Heinold, 586-4794, if you are able to volunteer for Operation Orange. We can register after Sept 9 but will not receive the t-shirts.

ATTENDANCE for Sunday, September 18th was 89 and total offering was $3,885.00.
