MEDIA BIAS QUESTIONED AT LIFETREE CAFÉ Bias in the news media will be explored at Lifetree Café on Wednesday at 7:00pm in the café and Thursday at 12:30pm in the Pool House at Candlewood. The program–titled “Bias: What’s the Media’s Agenda?”–features filmed interviews with three current and former news journalists discussing the current state of bias in the media. “I would say this is the most unprofessional period of American journalism I can recall in the last 30 years,” says David Aikman, a former correspondent for Time. “It’s just been extraordinarily unquestioning and dismissive of opposition viewpoints” During the program, participants will have an opportunity to discuss what level of tilt they see in the news media.

SCAMS- Have you recently gotten telephone calls from the IRS or US Dept. of the Treasury? We all have to be aware of scams and we all need tips to be protected from telephone scam artists. The IRS has issued a consumer alert about theses scam calls. The alert they have issued is on the table in the narthex if you would like to take a few minutes to read thru it or take a copy. These con artists can sound very convincing and may know a lot about you so it is important to be educated on these things.
