Prayers of the People week of August 28th

Prayers of the People – August 28, 2016

Let us join in prayer for the church, the earth, and those who are in need, that all receive what God promises to give. O God our Wisdom, we pause in this moment to offer You our other heartfelt intentions and petitions, aloud and silently.

O God our Wisdom shower Your blessings upon those who lead us in Your church, who speak Your word to us, and teach us, by example, to imitate their faith and thoughtfully consider the outcome of our own way of life. Give to all the baptized knowledge of your truth and the power of your presence. Cleanse us from stubbornness of heart and wash away our mortal discontents. Open our ears to hear Your voice and listen to Your words, that we may walk in Your ways in humility. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

O God our Wisdom immerse the souls of those who wield international, national, and local power in compassion, generosity, and thoughtful justice. Stem the tide of hatred, violence, and misery in our own country and across the globe. Bring peace and justice to all the countries of the world. Nurture our community. Give us joy in one another, and make us servants of all in need. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

O God our Wisdom strengthen and shield all those who serve in the military and risk their life in defense of others. Grant that they may always act with wisdom and integrity. When their work is done, let their bodies and minds be healed and refreshed and their service be honored. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

O God our Wisdom mend the broken and the brokenhearted. Free those imprisoned by anxiety or illness. Refresh the spirits of those laid low by illness and all who are in critical life circumstance, and lift the energies of all support providers. We pray especially for those on our prayer list and those we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

O God our Wisdom, we remember all who have died and now live in your light. Rescue those drowning in grief with the comfort of knowing that our loved ones are now exalted to a place of honor at Your heavenly and eternal feast. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

O God our Wisdom let our place at Your holy table be lower than the place we offer to others, as we entertain angels unaware, and may each facet of our lives reflect our love and worship of Your Creation. Receive our prayers, merciful God, and make us ready to receive you when you come through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
