Prayers of the People- week of August 14th

Prayers of the People
August 14, 2016

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus who has risen from the dead and ever lives to intercede for us at the right hand of the throne of God, and in His name let us pray together with all boldness and confidence in this truth. Let us pray:

For the whole Christian Church on earth, that as Christ Jesus was baptized into our sin, died and resurrected to accomplish our salvation by way of the cross, so would all whom He has sealed by the Holy Spirit with the sign of His sacrifice be strengthened to speak and to live according to His Word in all the world. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For all those whom the Lord has called and sent to preach in His name including Pastor Oman, that He would pour out His Spirit upon them and teach them to speak His Word faithfully and deal compassionately with His people in Christ, so that our faith in Him be strengthened. May we as Christians, sometimes devout and other times filled with doubt open our hearts and minds to the teaching and seek to grow in faith and devotion. Help us to love and forgive one another as you love and forgive us. To offer charity and discipleship to our brothers and sisters, known and unknown. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the young people of His Church that He would lead them not into temptation, but deliver them from every evil and grant them to grow in the grace and knowledge of His Word. As they go out into the world, help us as parents, teachers, and mentors to be good examples of Christian faith and be open doors to those young people needing someone to provide guidance, an open mind, and love. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the teachers, support staff, bus drivers and students as they prepare for the new year, fill them with strength to lead, grace to guide and hope to thrive in their classroom. Bless them beyond measure for their willingness to pour efforts into the gift, receipt and support of their education opportunity. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For our nation and all those in authority, that our Lord God Almighty would behold them in His mercy and replenish them by His grace; that all who receive the sword would bear it according to His Word, always inclining to His will and walking in His way. Direct us in the coming months to seek the truth of the candidates, not turn our backs to our civic duty but to engage in prayer for our nation, its leadership and our electoral decisions. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the fruits of the earth, and for the wise and faithful stewardship of God’s good creation, that He would enable us rightly to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, to receive His gifts with thanksgiving, to enjoy them in harmony with His holy will, and to sanctify them by His Word to the glory of His name and the good of all creatures, great and small, furry or naked. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For all sorts and conditions of men and women everywhere, that our Lord would be pleased to make His ways known unto them; that He would preserve all those who travel, protect all those who are in danger and provide for the needs of all His creatures; and that He would comfort and relieve all those who are in any way afflicted or distressed in mind, body or soul. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For steadfastness of faith in the race that is set before us, that we not grow weary or fainthearted but remember with thanksgiving the great cloud of witnesses that have already passed through the shadow of death yet remain with us and Christ. May we share this faithfulness with those that mourn but do not know the promise of eternal life through you. With this knowledge that by having been blessed and strengthened by those now absent in our lives may we persevere unto the blessed reunion. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For always being there in every moment, we end these prayers thankful for your grace and mercy. In the name of Jesus Christ, the Lord and Maker of all that has been, is today and will be forever. Amen.
