Prayers of the people- week of July 31

Prayers of the People – July 31, 2016

Please join me during this time of prayer to the many faces of God. Experience His presence and take a moment to center your thoughts during a moment of silence.

God of creation, you are the source of all that is good. The world seems out of control, full of evil. Help us to remember that you made this world and declared it good. We thank you for your many good gifts – For the beauty of Creation and its rich and varied landscapes; for clean water and fresh air; for creatures great and small. Guide us to touch the earth with gentleness, respecting all living things. Assure us of your presence and the confidence to trust you even when nothing seems to change. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of our forebears, we thank you for this place, where we may worship you fully and freely; learning, sharing, and doing your work in Christian community. Help us to appreciate that freedom, and not allow the ease of access to be taken for granted, nor forget to praise your name. We have been blessed by the capable hands and gift of our new bell and tower. May its ringing announce many glad tidings and joys in the coming years. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of love, help us to love and forgive one another as you love and forgive us. Heal us, Lord, of our fear and animosity towards others. Cure us of our impulse for revenge, which only perpetuates the cycle of bitterness and violence. Help us to build bridges of understanding and reconciliation that span the divides of race, culture and religion. And in those instances where that may be most difficult for us, help us to not lose hope. Remind us that you love those who need our forgiveness the same as you love us and as those who forgive us. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of authority, we pray that as a nation we would return to God. We pray for healing of this great land, for which our forefathers fought and died. Grant our current president and those seeking office wisdom beyond their own understanding and the courage to choose the right path no matter how narrow the gate. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of hope and mercy, your love is as wide as the oceans and as deep as the sea. May your spirit rise like a mighty wave sweeping over those who suffer in mind, body or spirit. You are the water of life. You are a fresh spring. You are healing rain to all those who are in need. We ask your healing presence to those named upon our hearts and each person on our church prayer list. Help us to bear each other’s burden and guide us to be caring to all people, our friends as well as our enemies. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of compassion, remain with those whose heart is broken and spirit mourns the passing of a loved one. Your grace is sufficient on this day. Let us lean on You, for when we are at our weakest your strength is strongest. May we be comforted in the knowledge that on one glorious day all suffering will be extinguished and together we shall walk in paradise. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

God of mercy, thank you for giving us the peace that surpasses all understanding. Guide us today and every day to live with open eyes to clearly see the directions you provide for eternal life. To You, and You alone, be all honor and glory forever and ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
