Prayers of the People
July 24, 2016
You are invited join together as one body in prayer for the all of God’s creations, the faithful and faithless, public and private. Let us center our minds and lift open our hearts beginning in silence.
To you, O God, we lift up our confusion. We sometimes lose heart in the face of evils and obstacles that seem too great to endure. We see brokenness in the lives of those we love, and in our own lives as well. Show us that these things will pass away and are momentary afflictions in the expanse of eternal life. Blessed are those that question the truth only to find, the truth has always been in you. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We give you thanks, O God for all ministers of your Living Church: that they may scatter the seed of your Word far and wide, trusting in your power to bring forth a rich harvest of peace and righteousness. We lift up New Beginnings Lutheran Church, Pastor Oman and the leadership team. Stir up the passion of this congregation to not remain complacent in the comforts but to do your work in seeking out opportunity to serve our neighbors, invite those that have fallen away from church or who have never been offered the opportunity. Guide us all to explore the possibilities and be worthy of your future blessings. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
To you, O God, we lift up all humankind. Flood our world with a desire for peace. In a world of strife at home and abroad, help us find ways to peacefully settle differences. Encourage compassion among leaders and citizens so that every person is treated with dignity, kindness, and love. And cradle the persecuted Christians and martyrs in your arms while remaining patient with those who persecute others. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We give you thanks, O God, for the leaders and peoples of the world, for all first responders, officers of the peace, and in the armed forces of our country: that the blessings of peace and justice may be known in the world. We are also thankful for those who sow in the fields, for those who reap the produce, and for all those who work in any way to provide food for your people: that they may be strengthened in their work and be given their share of the gifts of your creation. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
To you, O God, we lift up the known and unknown. Tend to those who are hungry, lonely and lost; suffering in mind, body and soul. Hear their cries and spur us to respond as your hands and heart in the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We give you thanks, O God, for those who are at home with the Lord, for whom all that is mortal has been swallowed up by life. May the reconciliation in Christ be our hope, and bring us to that day of harvest when, safe from all harm, we shall rest in the kingdom of God. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
To you, O God, we lift up all these prayers. Thank you for the hope and renewal that you offer to this world and to our hearts and lives. Thank you for always being there to talk to and may we never cease to listen and follow your direction in every circumstance this week. Amen.
