Prayers of the People — Week of June 26

Father, by your Spirit guide these people in prayer.  Help us clear our minds and focus on your presence as we center our hearts and lift our personal petitions to you.

Father, by your Spirit, guide your Church, so that all the people of your Church may follow your Son into ways of holiness and service. Inspire this congregation to re-discover the joy of how you blessed us with New Beginnings.   Let us not rest in the comfort of our pews, but through service and fellowship, not just Sunday morning attendance, grow us as faithful disciples. Make us neighbors to each other, ready to be and receive strangers, and show us how to love our neighbors as you intend. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father, by your Spirit guide all pastors, that they may proclaim the freedom bought by your Son and call people to the crucifixion of their unspiritual desires and passions. The distractions of the world draw our attention away from you. Refocus us in our commitment to your ways and the justice you desire for the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father, by your Spirit guide our elected and appointed officials, that in their deliberations and actions they may glorify you and be of true service to all the people. Guide the members of our armed forces and those responsible for public order, health, and safety; that they may perform their duties with temperance, faithfulness, and devotion.  And let us never forget and honor the sacrifices of these men and women.  Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father, by your Spirit guide those who seek healing, relief, protection, and peace; guide those who seek your face.  Through the fruits of your Spirit, make us healers in the world. Bring patience, gentleness, and self-control into the lives of all in need. We pray especially for all those on our prayer list, spoken in our hearts and minds and for Christians and all individuals who suffer from persecution. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father, by your Spirit make us mindful of the great cloud of witnesses who have followed you in faith and now live with you in glory. Bring us to that great day when with Elijah, Elisha, Paul and the apostles, and all the faithful, we are gathered, with them, into your kingdom, in the promise of life forever with you and rejoice in your home. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father, by your Sprit, protect us as we leave this place and as we go about our business, work and leisure in the coming week.  Be by our side as we openly share our Christian faith with humility and love.  We lift our prayers to you, O God, trusting your promise to hear us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
