Prayers of the People — April 24, 2016

Heavenly Father, we praise you this day for your Son Jesus. We thank you for giving us light here on earth, where it is so often completely dark. But in the darkness the name of Jesus Christ shines out as the prophetic Word: “Be comforted. After darkness comes light, after night comes day!” We thank you for this light. In joy we thank you, for we have experienced that Jesus lives and comes to meet each one. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Son Jesus ministry and teachings that we might better understand your will for our lives. May we openly praise your name and remember all your blessings. Fill our hearts to overflowing, that like the Psalmist, we may praise you, and adore you with our lives, with our hearts and minds and spirits. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, before his crucifixion and Resurrection your Son Jesus promised his disciples that they would receive the Holy Spirit. We thank you that he faithfully fulfilled that promise, and that even today, we too believe in him and have the Holy Spirit. Empower each of us and especially Pastor Oman and those confirming their faith in you to be bold and confident in sharing the gift of Jesus, crucified and risen. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, guide New Beginnings to bring honor and glory to your Holy Name through teaching and preaching, worship and song, service and sharing. Stir up in our hearts the call to service and enthusiasm to be a part of this Christian community. Help us use the talents that you have given in ways that are pleasing to you. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, there is no authority except from you. We lift up the leaders of our communities, nation and world. May your Spirit be in them as they carry out their duties, so that their decisions and actions further your plan and demonstrate respect for people of every race and creed. And, until such time the world can live harmoniously, protect our service men and women and all who serve to keep our communities safe and work in harm’s way. Let them feel your presence and guide them to be your hands and feet. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, raise up all who suffer physically, mentally or spiritually – by the power of your Son’s resurrection. Work healing and wholeness in their lives. We especially pray for those we name before you at this time, in our hearts or aloud. Bless the healing hands that you have called and sent to care for your people. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, you promise that one day you will wipe away every tear from our eyes and there will be no more death or mourning. Give them faith to entrust their dearly departed loved ones into your care and to look forward to that day when they shall join them around your throne of glory. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ and in his name alone we ask you to remember the needs of our time. We do not want anything that comes from ourselves. We want your peace as we pass through the springtime, a season of optimism and hope. May we feel your presence as we move forward through this day, feel the sunshine or rain on our faces and celebrate the blooming renewal of nature around us. In Jesus name, Amen.
