On this second Sunday of Advent, as we await the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us pray for all who have need of his love to lighten their darkness. May we join together during a moment of silence to center our hearts and minds to you, Father God.
Father God, in the quiet of our prayers and in the comfort of Your love, we come for help. We ask that we may hear the message of our brother, John the Baptist, and accept that we are too often more viper than saint. Let the reality of sin and judgment color our preparations for the Advent of the Holy Child, so that even overexcited children and tired adults may experience a true joy in the grace we receive through him. Speak through us, O God, to proclaim Christ the Savior of the world. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Father God, satisfy the needs of those who are poor and hungry, victims of violence and abuse, and those who land is torn by war or natural disaster. Help us to not blame You for the sin in the world. There is much wickedness and You are not the cause. Help us to see that regardless the situation, You have sent hope in the message of salvation. Guide us into that hope, not resting in the desire to seek immediate answers, knowing that all things are now, as they always have been. Use us, Father, as your instruments to serve all in need. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Father God, we pray also for the leaders of the nations of the world. Lead them and their people to work for peace among the nations. We pray especially for the peace of Israel, Syria and throughout the Middle East and ask that you would bring each nation and her citizens to know you and Jesus Christ your Son as the true messiah. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Father God, we thank you for those who have answered calls of service that have led them away from time with family and friends. Watch over those tasked with keeping us safe, especially men and women of the armed forces, wherever they may be stationed in the world. May their homecomings be joyful. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our Prayer
Father God, we lift up to you all in need of your healing touch. Grant healing of body for the sick, comfort the soul for the grieving, and bring peace to those whose minds race with worry or confusion. Bless them all to know that peace which passes all understanding, as they put their trust and hope in you. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Father in heaven, we pray with the whole Church on earth, “Come, Lord Jesus,” and awaiting the return of your Son, commend all for whom we pray to your fatherly care. Thank you for always being there to talk to and may we never cease to listen to you. Trusting in your mercy, through Jesus Christ, your son, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Amen.
