Prayers of the People for September 20th

dove_9665cTrusting, through the power of the Holy Spirit, in the goodness of our heavenly Father, let us pray in Jesus’ name for the Church, the world, and one another.

Lord Jesus, teach your Church the way of true humility and of gracious service. Give the churches everywhere truth and gentleness which comes from your wisdom. Keep it faithful to you, even in the face of the world’s hostility. And use it to draw many who are far away close to your Cross, there to experience your saving love for them. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Bestow your gracious Spirit upon all who suffer because they confess you as Lord and God. Give them such wisdom, purity, and gentleness, that they may soften the hearts of those who hate them, and crown their faithfulness with your dearest blessings. Bless and prosper the work and witness of our church body, other congregations, companions, and your missionaries throughout the world. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

It is easy, Lord, to speak of being your Servant Church—and sometimes so hard to do it! Guide this congregation as it tries to live according to your word. By our service, give those who do not know you a glimpse of your holy love for them. Help all of us to support this ministry here at NB’s and bless our outreach programs here in the community and throughout the world. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Bestow your Holy Spirit upon the pastors and leaders of the churches esp. as they gather together locally or in larger settings. Give guidance to them with steadfast faith as they work together to fulfill their ordination vows to you glory. May all hearts and minds be transformed into a greater reflection of you and your will for the churches esp. in these changing times. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Grant to the rulers of the nations a measure of heavenly wisdom and the desire to serve the people entrusted to their care. Help us ease the burdens of those troubled by manmade calamities, natural disasters, refuges that are fleeing their homes for fear of what is happening in their homelands, and for all that are experiencing things that are causing such suffering. Thank you for all those who work to ease these burdens. Give us all a gentle and humble spirit so that we may learn to live in peace and to help our fellowman not just in the bad times but also in the good times.

Give a courageous and willing heart to all who serve in our military, and bless whatever they do that accomplishes your will. Give them healing and hope when they are wounded; help them find new ways of serving when they are discharged; and strengthen the bonds they share with family, friends, and community. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father we pray for your mercy and healing to everyone who suffers, whether in body, mind, or spirit. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for winning forgiveness, salvation and eternal life for all who turn to you in faith. We entrust all into your care who are grieving. We recognize that there are many forms of grieving when there is a loss of a loved one or a loss that brings unwanted changes in our lives. Comfort those whose loss is sharp and deep. We are so thankful for your faithfulness and your promises to be with us always. While we spend our time on earth lead us in the paths of servanthood and righteousness, which you have faithfully walked before us. And when our days on earth are over, bring us into that blessed place which you have prepared for all the redeemed, where with your Father and the Holy Spirit, you will shine the light of eternal life upon us, to your glory and our endless joy.

Into your hands, merciful Father, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
