Prayers of the People — August 23, 2015

dove_9665cPlease join me during this time of prayers and thanksgiving to the one true God. May you feel his presence and take a moment to center your thoughts and lift up your personal petitions during a moment of silence.

Lord Jesus, You have also lived in times of difficulty, which ended with You on the cross. Help us to pull away from this incessant desire for good times uplifted by our culture to see that life is lived and You are forever. Help us to live the life to which You have called us, knowing that only in You can we live the life the way it is meant to be lived – no matter what may come. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Inspire us to come to their aid; and give us the Spirit of self-control, so that we may use your gifts of food and drink for your glory and not in self-indulgence. May our congregation at New Beginnings Lutheran Church seek to aid our neighbors, welcome all through the doors and share our blessings in the ways you would see fit. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Increase our resolve to be bold in our witness and fearless in our living according to Biblical standards. In a culture where so much is defined in terms of human rights and desires, we ask your presence. We pray that the laws of our nation will continue to protect the religious freedoms according to personal faith convictions. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Flood our world with a desire for peace. In a world of strife at home and abroad, help us find ways to peacefully settle differences and to see all people as your children Stir up compassion among leaders and citizens so that every person is treated with dignity, kindness, and love. We pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters throughout the world; that the Lord would receive the martyrs into His eternal life, and that those who persecute others would be turned away from their evil and to the Lord in repentance Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Tend to those who are hungry, lonely, and lost. Hear their cries and spur us to respond as your hands and heart in the world. Comfort your people who are suffering in mind, body and soul. May you grant healing and an extra measure of your love to each of these named aloud and in our hearts. May all of these children not despair but look to you for the one true life, life eternal. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Grant those who have recently face the death of a loved one, the strength of body and spirit they need to continue their walk on earth. We remember with gratitude those who have preceded us into your kingdom who now rest in your arms and dance with the angels. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Guide us along Your paths no matter what may come, either in our lives, the nation, or the world. Seasons will come and go, but You are forever. In the eternal truths You have revealed, may we find the goals, means and way to live the life to which You have called us. And may this be our ways through the rest of this day and the days to follow. Into your hands we commend all for which we pray. And all God’s people say, Amen.
