Prayers of the People

dove_9665cLet us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.

Almighty God, who saved your chosen one, Noah, though the waters of the flood, and gave him your unfailing promise. And for Your Son Jesus who strode upon the waters bidding his disciples not to fear – we praise you for the great salvation you have given to us through our baptism into his death and resurrection. We pray that whatever storms may threaten our lives, that his voice will echo clearly in our ears as it did the ears of his first disciples, “Take heart, it is I; have no fear.” Help to remember esp. when we fall back into the trap of worry and anxiety that you have the situation in hand and we need not fear, Let us put our trust in You, for with you, all things are possible and no problem too small or too big that you can’t handle.  Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For this congregation, that we may not be daunted by the challenges of our age or beguiled by the tempting voice of other gods. With your Holy Church throughout the world and the saints and martyrs of every age, may this congregation bow the knee only before you, from whom every family in heaven and earth is named. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the beauty of the earth and for the beauty of the skies, we thank you. Add your blessing to the delights of this season. Protect and refresh those who travel on vacation; give to our children the joys of summer fun and memories to delight for a lifetime. Give families time together. For the wonder of each hour, of the day and of the night, we raise our sacrifice of praise.  Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For those in need: for those among us who suffer any affliction of body, mind, or spirit, and for all those in our world who stagger under the weight sin or shame, poverty of body or mind, illness of the flesh, broken relationships, lack of daily bread or lack of a true relationship with you. We pray for those who lack human companionship and for all who long to know you better, grant them grace to sing, “O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, and his steadfast love endures forever.”

For all those who grieve and suffer loss, that all may be held in your eternal keeping now and forever. Be with us all that we will live and die with the promise of eternal life with you and all the saints, and until that new day, work within us in all we ask or think. May we never fail to give you the glory especially  in the church, in our actions, and the way we treat our family, friends, and neighbors.

Into your hands, Merciful Father, we entrust ourselves and all for whom we pray, confident of your love for us in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
