Prayer of the People for April 26, 2015

prayinghands_6On this fourth Sunday of Easter, let us join together to humbly petition our Gracious Father for strength and guidance for ourselves and others beginning with silent prayers.

Gracious Father, show us each day your infinite power. Let us be reminded that you are the stone the builders rejected – and you became the cornerstone, the most important stone of all. In the shadow of the cross, may we proclaim your word boldly and carry out your plan without fear or hesitation. We pray for our brothers and sisters around the world who are persecuted for their faith, physically, psychologically or economically. Protect and comfort them. Grant them continued strength. Remind them that in every moment and every situation you are with them and you comfort them. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Father, teach us to know and follow your voice. Help us to love and care for others and may our faith be more than just talk and words. Let us demonstrate the joy and hope of Easter all year long. In this world of strife at home and abroad, help us find ways to peacefully settle our differences with spouses, children, co-workers and neighbor. And, until such time the world can live harmoniously, protect our service men and women and all who serve to keep our communities safe and work in harm’s way. Let them feel your presence and guide them to be your hands and feet. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Father, guide the leaders in our communities, our nation and throughout the world. May your Spirit be in them as they carry out their duties, and may their decisions and actions further your plan and demonstrate respect for people of every race and creed. Be with those who may be unknown to us but are known to you, and give them strength and perseverance. Shower them with your love and encourage them in hope through your Holy Spirit. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Father, guide New Beginnings to bring honor and glory to your Holy Name through teaching and preaching, worship and song, service and sharing. Stir up in our hearts the call to service and enthusiasm to be a part of this Christian community. Help us use the talents that you have given in ways that are pleasing to you. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Father, raise up all who suffer physically, mentally or spiritually – by the power of your Son’s resurrection. Work healing and wholeness in their lives. We especially pray for those we name before you in our hearts or aloud Bless the healing hands that you have called and sent to care for your people. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Father, pour out your Spirit on those who are grieving the loss of loved ones. Remind us that through your death and resurrection we are granted the promise of eternal life. Thank you for each person that has touched our lives, shared loving moments yet have now passed beyond the veil. May we be joyful in the promise of heavenly reunion. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious Father, let us be mindful that Springtime is a season of optimism and hope. May our daily lives as Christians be centered on hope. Winter, with its cold and dark days has gone just as Good Friday has passed to Easter and beyond. Guide us to live a resurrection life reflected in the new life springing up around us. Thank you Lord for the hope that you bring; the renewal that you offer to this world and to our hearts and lives. Amen.
