Prayers of the People — March 29, 2015

dove_9665cAs we contemplate the mighty acts of God that won our salvation, let us pray for the Church, the world, and all people everywhere.

As we gather here in this place in peace and quietness, we are aware of our many sisters and brothers in Christ who bear his cross in the world and suffer persecution for their faith. Sustain them by your mighty Spirit, and let the blood of the martyrs truly be the seed of the Church. Just as the disciples were often persecuted for preaching Christ crucified and often being forced to travel to different places due to persecution, the word spread and took root and the word would not be extinguished.

So my we, let the cross of Christ be our source of hope and power in this congregation. May we never be ashamed of the foolishness of Christ crucified, but may we boldly proclaim the cross as your wisdom and righteousness, that many will experience its life-giving power.  Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Teach the nations the way of peace, justice, and humble service. Overcome all prejudice and hatred among us and in all places. May all people take claim to their actions and deeds in a way that will promote harmony rather than blame and fault finding. Protect all who serve and put their lives on the line for others. May our nation and all leaders look to you oh God for direction and wisdom to make this world a better place.  Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For all who observe the Holy Mysteries this week, that your Holy Spirit would speak to many hearts, creating fervent faith and active love. May at the name of Jesus, many open their hearts and minds to the true meaning of his life, death, and resurrection. Give each of us the courage to share our faith in a way that will encourage others to seek his face and open their hearts. May all know of the promises given because of the mighty events of Easter that took place so many years ago.  Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We lift to you in pray, the needs of which we are aware, and for the needs known only to you, we pray. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

As our Lord Jesus transformed death into the gateway of eternal life, we remember all those for whom death is drawing near. We thank you for our hope and we claim the promise that we will all be raised from death to share in your presence, and enter into your eternal Easter festival. Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord.

Into your hands, Father, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy, for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
